Evansville African American Museum

The mission of the Evansville African American Museum is to continually develop a resource and cultural center to collect, preserve, and educate the public on the history and traditions of African American families, organizations, and communities.

The Evansville African American Museum tells the stories of local black histories from 1820 to the present. While textbooks often overlook the narratives of black citizens, our tours, exhibitions, and preserved living quarters of black inhabitants from the 20th century immerse visitors into a community that has helped to shape our city and nation.

Evansville Police Department - Citizen’s Academy

The goal of the Citizen’s Academy is to give members of the community an inside look at the various units of the police department and to create better understanding and communication between citizens and police through education. This is an opportunity for the citizens of the community to know more about the men and women who are protecting their community and why they make the decisions they do. The Academy also presents an opportunity for the citizens to voice any comments or concerns directly to the department.

Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation

The EVSC believes that by offering student support through the Center for Family, School, and Community Partnerships, and connecting students and their families with community partners and staff, we can help every child succeed in school as well as life. In addition to the services listed, we also have a crisis response team that is made available any time the school finds it necessary to address the needs of students who are affected by a crisis situation. We can also discuss custody situations with parents, if needed.

Ozanam Family Shelter

Ozanam is Evansville’s only emergency shelter for families. Our residents stay in private rooms and receive basic needs, including utilities, food, personal hygiene items and access to our laundry facility. They also receive help developing a plan to get them out of emergency housing and into their own permanent place.

Ozanam’s small staff is complemented by an active board of directors and small army of volunteers. Working together, we’ve impacted the lives of thousands of homeless individuals since 1989.
